Event description

SpotLight : The Inter College Debate event,comprising of Debate (in the preliminary ‘Combat’ round), elocution (in the second ‘Impromptu’ round) and polemics (in the final ‘Spotlight’ round), of Techstorm 2.13 -- the annual Tech-fest of B.P.Poddar Institute of Management and Technology, welcomes all the avid debaters, speakers and orators to the event which does not only involve the technical efficiencies related to the Engineering field, but sets a perfect platform for you guys to flaunt your talent in every field of knowledge and communication.
This is the most challenging and enjoyable debating competition which does patronise the students, but ofcourse, those students who are the most deserving in this category of talent. This prestigious event is open for all streams including Science, Commerce, Art, Medical and not to forget the obvious -- Engineering students.
Our platform will become your stage and you will get a golden chance to shine under the SpotLight of Techstorm 2.13. This event will be one of the most rewarding experiences of its kind which you are likely to encounter. So what are you waiting for?

Event Rounds

There are 3 rounds :

1. COMBAT
2. IMPROMPTU
3. SPOTLIGHT

Rules and Regulations

Prelims Round : Date (29th September 2013)

COMBAT :
(a) This is a debate round (English).
(b) All the participants will be divided into groups.
(c) Each group will consist of maximum of 5 members speaking for the topic and 5 against the topic.
(d) All the members in a group can be from the same college/institution.
(e) Though groups will be formed, marking will be done on the basis of individual performances.
(f) There will be chits, in which the topics will be given and will be selected by lottery system; the judge will select from among the chits for each debate round. Then there will be toss to decide which group will speak for the topic and which group against.
(g) Each groups will get be alloted 5 minutes to decide among themselves before the starting of the debate.
(h) One group will present their views FOR the topic and the other will be saying AGAINST them.
(i) Each participant will get 3 minutes to put forth his/her opinion.
(j) Only one students will be chosen from each team as the best speaker who will qualify for the Second round,"Impropmtu".





Second Round : Date (29th September 2013)

IMPROMPTU :
(a) This is an extempore round.
(b) The topics will be written down in chits same as before and the contestants will have to select one among these, by lottery system.
(c) Each of the participants will get 2 minutes to speak on his / her own topic.
(d) The participants selected in this round will get the chance to appear for the final round.
(e) The number of participants for the next round will not exceed 5.
(f) Selected candidates from Impromptu Round will be given Participation Certificates of SpotLight ,Techstorm 2.13.





Finale Round : Date (29th September 2013)

SPOTLIGHT :
(a) This is the final and decisive round.
(b) This is actually a question-answer type of round and a way to test the presence of mind of the talented ones.
(c) A particular question will be given to the contestants (not more than 5) by our respected judges and the participants will have to answer that in a writing script in their own way.
(d) Each candidate will be provided with pen and paper to scribble down their view within 3 minutes.
(e) Then the candidates will have to read out their answers individually. This will be followed by the submission of scripts to the judges so that no candidate will be able to add any further opinions.
(f) Judging on the basis of quality of the answers, top 3 will be decided by the judges.
(g) These 3 students will get respective prize money and certificates.
