Webinar on Introduction to decision tree and Ensemble in Machine Learning

Department of Information Technology of B. P. Poddar Institute of Management & Technology organized a Webinar on “Introduction to decision tree and Ensemble in Machine Learning” on June 4, 2020. Dr. Saptarshi Goswami, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department ( CSE) Bangabashi Morning College has been the speaker of the session. Dr. Goswami has more than 10 years experience in the field of Machine learning and Data science. He is an executive committee member of Society for Data Science. More than 220 participants, both from West Bengal and other states participated in the webinar. The webinar was convened by Dr. Sabnam Sengupta and was coordinated by Dr.Gitosree Khan. Satyaki Majumdar and Reetam Dutta had been the student coordinators of the event.

MLDA 2019

The Workshop on Machine Learning for Data Analytics using R (MLDA 2019) is aimed to address current state-of-the-art of Machine Learning and Data Analytics both in Academia and Industry. The workshop helps to understand the progress of Machine Learning in the field of Data Analytics both at research and application level. The goal of this workshop is to deliver in-depth concepts, methods, applications by integrating Machine Learning methodologies for Data Science advancement. The hands-on session of this workshop demonstrate how to apply Machine Learning methodologies for the Data Analytics application using R. Number of Participants present in the workshop was 46. RTML 2018

Department of Information Technology, BPPIMT, had organized a 3-day workshop on “Recent Trends in Machine Learning”. Ardent Computech Pvt. Ltd. and Webtek Lab taken hands on sessions on the first two days of the workshop. On the 3rd day of RTML 2018, Dr. Soumya Sen, University of Calcutta and Mr. Nilotpal Ghosh, Sr. Architect, Cognizant Technology Solutions delivered lectures to the students from 2nd year and 3rd year attended the workshop.

Symposium: ACCBE 2017

A Symposium on Advanced Computing, Communication and Biomedical Engineering (ACCBE 2017) was organized by Dept of Information Technology, B. P. Poddar Institute of Management and Technology in collaboration with Center of Excellence for Systems Biology and Biomedical Engineering, University of Calcutta on March 27-29, 2017.

There was a tutorial session organized by Center of Excellence for Systems Biology and Biomedical Engineering, University of Calcutta on “IoT Landscape: Technologies and Applications” by Prof. Amlan Chakrabarti, Mr. Suman Sau (CU), Ms. Debomita Chakraborty (IBM), Mr. Kaushik Chakraborty(CU) , followed by a student paper presentation on March 28, 2017.

Faculty Development Programme

Dept. of Information Technology, BPPIMT organized a Faculty Development Programme on “Use of ICT for online and blended learning” during 8 th -9 th July and on 30 th July 2016. Spreading the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in education is a MHRD initiative and is aimed to give a direction in initiating a learner oriented teaching learning environment. This FDP was also aimed to extend this connection for imparting knowledge, transitioning towards a more active and learner oriented teaching learning environment. A total of thirty eight faculty and technical staff members from all departments participated in the programme. Discussions on learning management system LMS: MOODLE was a major thrust area in the programme. The event was coordinated by Gitosree Khan, Swagata (Gayen) Kundu, Balaram Ghosal, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Lipi Begam and Asim Kumar Panda.

Workshop on Hadoop

Department of Information Technology organized a workshop on Hadoop in association with Ardent on November 16, 2016. The workshop session was mentored by Dr. Rajmohan Dey Sarkar, Director of Ardent Computech Pvt. Ltd. The objective of BigData Hadoop Workshop is to make awareness about the new Technology like Big Data Hadoop, Data Analytics among Engineering Students. The workshop was designed to give in-depth knowledge of the Big Data framework using Hadoop to use Pig, Hive, and Impala to process and analyze large datasets for data ingestion with our big data training.With Hadoop, no data is too big. And in today’s hyper-connected world where more and more data is being created every day, Hadoop’s breakthrough advantages mean that businesses and organizations can now find value in data that was recently considered useless. The students also gained hands on project during the workshop.

Industry Academia Interaction

Ms. Ria Mukherjee Basu, Faculty (Culture and Language Initiatives), TCS Talent Development delivered a lecture on “Enhancing Employability Skills” in an industry academia interaction session organized by Department of Information Technology, BPPIMT on November 9, 2016 in association with the Technical forum. The lecture is about bridging the Gap between Academia and Industry. It mainly emphasize the significance of enhancing academia‐industry collaboration for augmenting research, innovation, employability and greater productivity, through various measures. Hence, the session ends with the solution that Academia and industry need to recognize each other’s strengths and strive towards greater trust and communication.

National Conference: ETCC 2014

A National Conference on Emerging Trends in Computing & Communication (ETCC 2014) was organized by the Department of Information Technology, B. P. Poddar Institute of Management & Technology, on March 22-23, 2014, at Hotel Pride, Kolkata. The conference was technically sponsored by IEEE and Computer Society of India, Kolkata chapters. The conference proceedings were published by Springer under the book series “Lecture Notes in Electrical Engineering”. The proceedings of ETCC 2014 are available in print format from international organizations, like amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, and are also available in different electronic (e-book) formats, like Amazon Kindle.
Distinguished personalities from institutes of national and international repute have graced the conference with their esteemed presence and lectures on various emerging domains. Prof. Dwijesh Dutta Majumder, Professor Emeritus, Indian Statistical Institute had been the chief guest of the conference. Prof. Partha P. Das, IIT Kharagpur delivered the first keynote lecture and Prof. Swapan Bhattachrya, Director; NIT Surathkal delivered the keynote lecture 2. In addition to that, there had been plenary sessions by Prof. Nabanita Das, ISI Kolkata, Prof. Aditya Bagchi, ISI Kolkata and Prof. K. P. Ghatak, NIT Agartala. Prof. B. N. Chatterji, Dean Academics, BPPIMT, had chaired the plenary sessions. Other than that, there had been invited lectures by Prof. Indranil Sengupta, IIT Kharagpur, Prof. Nabendu Chaki, University of Calcutta, Dr. Anirban Sarkar, NIT Durgapur, Dr. Debashis De, WBUT, Kolkata, Dr. Ananya Kanjilal, BPPIMT, Dr. Tanay Chattopadhyay, WBPDCL. Prof. B. P. Sinha, ISI Kolkata and Prof. Samiran Chattopadhyay, Jadavpur University, Dr. Rituparna Chaki, University of Calcutta, were also present during the conference. There were total 49 papers, including 7 papers in the poster presentation category.
