Function of the Cell
- To provide information to disadvantaged students/staff members about government and state welfare programs.
- To oversee the implementation of policies and programs for disadvantaged groups.
- To provide guidance and counselling on academic, financial, social, and other matters.
- To enhance diversity among students, faculty, and staff.
- To identify issues amongst the disadvantaged sections on the campus.
- To create an enabling and non-discriminative environment.
- To ensure equality and equal opportunities for disadvantaged groups.
Facilities of the Cell
The facilities offered by an Equal Opportunity Centre (EOC) in a college may include:
- Internet facility: An internet facility is available.
- Regular classes: Consistent classes are offered
- Expert lectures: Lectures are given by experts
- Teaching staff: Well-qualified teaching staff is available
- Teaching aids: Modern teaching aids like LCD projectors are used
- Library section: A special section of books is available in the central library
- Reading room: A reading room is available
- E-resources: E-resources are available
- Books: Books are available
Roles & Responsibilities
Chairperson:
To review the implementation of various schemes and programs for the welfare of the disadvantaged and marginalized groups of the society and other related activities undertaken by the college as well as implementation of reservation policy in admission and recruitment for SC, ST, PH, OBC (non-creamy layer) and others, if any.
- Advisor:
- Oversee/monitor various welfare schemes/ programs sponsored by the Government of India/State Government, UGC or any agency/ organization as well as those devised by the college/affiliating university for the disadvantaged groups for their effective implementation
- Be responsible for the effective functioning of SC/ST Cell and other such Cells/Centres dealing with the problems of different socially disadvantaged groups.
- Convene the meetings of in-charge of other Committees/Programs dealing with social issues such as Gender Sensitization Committee against sexual harassment (GSCASH), National Service Schemes (NSS) etc. to review their activities.
- The Advisor shall submit the progress/review report to the Principal. The Coordinators of SC/ST Cell, Remedial Coaching and other schemes/ Women’s Study Centre, Population Education Cell etc. shall be closely associated with the Equal Opportunity Centre.
- Co-ordinator:
- To co-ordinate among chairperson, advisor and members of Equal Opportunity Cell(EOC).
- Plans for making efforts to sensitize the academic community regarding the problems associated with social exclusion as well as aspirations of the marginalized communities.
- To co-ordinate with other cells such as NSS, ICC etc. to achieve the vision and mission of this Equal Opportunity Cell(EOC)
- To co-ordinate for preparing the list of events and workshop to be organized under Equal Opportunity Cell during an academic year.
- Faculty member:
- To motivate student’s participation in different events and workshops conducted under Equal Opportunity Cell(EOC).
- Creating awareness among concerned stakeholders at college level/department level about equal opportunity.
- To organize various programs / events, workshop and outreach for awareness in various disadvantaged societies regarding Equal Opportunity.
- Student member:
- To execute the various activities planned by the Equal Opportunity Cell.
- Coordinate with classmates and inform them to participate in the various events organized by the Equal Opportunity Cell.
