The Industry Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC) of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), B. P. Poddar Institute of Management and Technology (BPPIMT) organized two special sessions for the third year CSE students to address the gaps in curriculum with respect to industry needs and best practices. “Workshop on DevOps” and “Workshop on Agile Methodology” were successfully held on 11.11.2021 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on 12.11.2021 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM respectively.
In the present scenario, DevOps and Agile Methodologies are emerging trends and accepted in an exponential order. DevOps is a merging of software development and related IT operations. Its key challenges are shared ownership, workflow automation and rapid feedback. Its objective is to shorten the software development life cycle and continuous delivery with high software quality.
The speaker of the DevOp session, Ms. Moumita Bose, an IT expert on Agile Methodology and DevOps, business and system analyst from TATA Consultancy Services, introduced “DevOps” to the audience in a very comprehensible way through her excellent presentations.
The session started with the welcome speech by Dr. Ananya Kanjilal, Head of the Computer Science and Engineering department, B. P. Poddar Institute of Management and Technology and then the speaker of the session was introduced by Mr. Partha Sarkar, Academic Relationship Manager, TCS. IIPC members of the department, Ms. Phultuli Sarkhel and Mr. Amartya Dutta supported by Mr. Anagh Pramanik coordinated the entire session. A total of 89 students of the department along with Mr. Sudip Kundu, corresponding faculty of the relevant course and other faculty members attended the workshop. The session ended with a lot of good discussions.
The second day workshop was on Agile Methodology and was conducted by Mr. Himadri Debnath of Tata Consultancy Services. Agile methodology is based on individuals and interactions over process and tools, working software over comprehensive documentation, customer collaboration over contract negotiation, responding to change over following a plan. A lot of industries from healthcare, retail, marketing, finance, education, and many others are benefitted from these technologies in terms of speed, reliability, security, flexibility, and in enhanced workflow systems.
The speaker of the Agile session, Mr. Himadri Debnath, a certified Agile coach of TCS explained the concept in a lucid manner via-a-vis the classical Waterfall model. Agile is a concept and requires a change in mindset, he reiterated while discussing several success stories across various businesses adopting agile methodology.
IIPC member of the department, Ms. Phultuli Sarkhel supported by Mr. Anagh Pramanik coordinated the entire session and a total 85 students of the department participated. Dr. Jayeeta Chanda, IIPC coordinator of Institute who helped collaborate with TCS in organizing the workshops emphasized the need for such sessions. This session was very engaging and students demonstrated a lot of interest in the follow up discussions.
A total of 85 students attended this session. Both the sessions had wonderful feedback from the students and we look forward to collaborate more on such trending industry relevant topics in future for the betterment of our students.

In the present scenario, cloud adoption is an emerging trend and accepted in an exponential order. A lot of industries from healthcare, retail, marketing, finance, education, and many others are benefitted from this cloud adoption technology in terms of data storage, data security, flexibility, and in enhanced workflow systems. The speaker of the session, Mr. Avijit PalChowdhury, an IT advisor, business and system analyst from Capgemini India Pvt. Ltd. enlightened the topic “Cloud Adoption” to the audience in a very comprehensible way through his excellent presentation.
The session started with the welcome speech by Dr. Ananya Kanjilal, head of the Computer Science and Engineering department, B. P. Poddar Institute of Management and Technology and then the speaker of the session was introduced by IIPC member of the department, Ms. Phultuli Sarkhel. Ms. Sarkhel coordinated the whole session and total 65 students of the department along with IIPC coordinator of the department Dr. Jayeeta Chanda and other faculty members of the department attended the session. The technical coordination was done by IIPC member of the department, Mr. Amartya Dutta and the session ended with a lot of good discussions.
The Industry Institute Partnership Cell of the department of Computer Science and Engineering organised an Workshop on Machine Learning in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services Limited for the students of 3rd year ( Date : 22nd June 2021, Time : 5pm to 7 pm).
When the world of computing is focusing on Machine learning paradigm, flavours of the industry in this domain has definitely being beneficial for the students. The speaker of the session Ms. Jayeeta Mondal, Researcher, Embedded Systems and Robotics, TCS Research, explained the nitty gritty of machine learning in a very lucid manner.
The session started with welcome address by Dr. Ananya Kanjilal and then the speaker of the session was introduced by Dr. Jayeeta Chanda. Whole session was coordinated Ms. Phultuli Sarkhel and technical coordination was done by Mr. Amartya Dutta.
95 students of CSE 3rd year attended the session.
A webinar on “How to Crack a Product Manager Job Post B.Tech.”, by Sourav Karmakar, was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the Institute on 7th August, 2020.

Sourav Karmakar, alumni of CSE BPPIMT 2014-batch. Currently, he is the Product lead at Vedantu – the live online tutoring platform for K-12 and JEE/NEET preparation, it’s India’s second-biggest Edtech startup and recently raised $100mn of funding. Sourav builds products for growth and heads the new initiative’s team at Vedantu. Before Vedantu, he was leading products at healthcare startup DocsApp and vernacular startup Vokal. He is an Entrepreneur and started his first company SASLAB – a cyber security firm during 2nd year of college, which he sold in 2014. Post that launched Stupid App – a social gaming company that was acquired by Vokal for over $5mn in 2017.
He is a growth and product consultant to multiple big startups like TikTok, Nike, OnePlus, MTV Voot, etc. He is an angel investor and mentor startups in India and Southeast Asia to help them in product building and business scaling.
We, the members of the Department of CSE, are extremely proud of his achievements and wish him more success in life.
Sourav delivered an insightful talk on how to get a Product Manager Job as a fresher. He talked about Product management, Tools-framework need to learn, Career growth opportunities, Interview process, Case studies, etc. related to Product Manager Job. The session was very much useful for the current students.

A webinar on “Supply Chain Technology and Product Management”, by Saikat Banerjee, was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the Institute on 1st August, 2020.
Saikat completed his BTech from Department of CSE, B. P. Poddar Institute of Management and Technology in 2010. He subsequently was placed in CTS through campus interview. Further he graduated with a Masters degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is currently working at Amazon as Senior Product Manager – Technical. He has 9+ years of experience in companies like Amazon, Tesco, EA Sports and PwC.
We, the members of the Department of CSE, are extremely proud of his achievements and wish him more success in life.
Saikat delivered an insightful talk on supply chain, its implementation and how it applies in product management but also dived deeper into his career progression, how he pursued his higher studies, and other important tips for our students.

The department of Computer Science & Engineering,BPPIMT organised a Webinar Session on 4th July 2020 keeping the focus on the softskill of the students. The topic was “Enhancing your Employability Quotient.“ The speaker of the session was Dr. Ria Mukherjee. Dr. Ria Mukherjee is an interculturalist educator who has been teaching since 2001. After 10 years as an English teacher at undergraduate and postgraduate courses in academic institutions, she joined the industry in 2011. She is currently a Specialist faculty of Leadership, Business Skills & Culture at TCS. Dr Mukherjee creates courses, designs curriculum and conducts workshops for clients and colleagues. She has a PhD (in Arts) on Women’s Studies from Jadavpur University. She studied in Italy and England having won the Italian Govt. Scholarship and a Commonwealth Fellowship.Dr Mukherjee was a member of B P Poddar family in the department of Humanities.
The session was very engaging.It provided the right kind of information required for the students to present themselves during an interview.We were very fortunate to have Dr. Ria Mukherjee amongst us and also hope to conduct more sessions in future.
The department of Computer Science & Engineering, BPPIMT organised a Webinar Session on 27th June 2020 on the topic of Intelligence in IOT. The speaker was Atanu Roy Chowdhury an alumni of the department. He is a senior techno functional consultant for IOT/AI led digital transformations. He was member of technical staff at Infosys Software Engineering and Technology Labs,Harvard Sensor Networking Lab, Telcordia Advanced Technology Solutions Lab and Blue Highway. The prefinal year students and faculty members of the institute attended the session. The session was enlightening and informative. It not only provided the roadmap to study and nurture IOT but also encouraged students to take up Intelligence in IOT based projects.He also educated the students about the career opportunities of the same and how to enhance the knowledge to cater to the industrial demands.We are very fortunate to have Mr. Chowdhury among us who shared his knowledge as well as his experiences with the participants.
Webinar on “Deep Learning in NLP and Speech for Low resource language” was organised by Department of Computer Science & Engineering, BPPIMT on June 20, 2020 from 7-8 pm. Mr. Arijit Mukherjee, an alumni of 2016 batch of Dept. of CSE and presently working as Data and Applied Scientist, Microsoft IDC, India was the speaker where 272 participants (faculty and students) spanning various colleges joined live on YouTube.
