Industrial Visit at Haldia Dock Complex

Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering jointly with SPIE student chapter BPPIMT, organized a one-day Industrial Visit at Haldia Dock Complex on 12.08.24. Students from 2nd, 3rd and final year participated in this visit accompanied by the faculty members & Technical staffs from the department. The visit began with a tour of the berth and vast container yards, where Mr. Pranoy Dey, official of Dock Authority explained the operation of dock in details. Students here got an up-close look at the various containers and the logistics involved in handling them. Next, students visited the lock gate, which plays a crucial role in the Dock’s operations. Here they got an idea about the function of a pilot boat and engineering behind lock gate, that regulates water levels and allows ships to pass through safely. The visit concluded with an informative presentation by the port officials. The experts at the port gave a detailed overview of the port operations, covering cargo handling, intricate processes that keep the port running smoothly etc. It was a day filled with learning and valuable insights into the workings of one of the India’s major ports.
